19 October (China Economic Net): BAHAWALPUR At a recent conference at the Islamia University of Bahawalpur, the Governor of Punjab, Engr. Muhammad Baligh Ur Rehman, praised Pakistan for its innovation and optimization of the Chinese strip intercropping method. Additionally, he pledged the full assistance of his office for the development of strip intercropping technique for soybean cultivation in Punjab.
Punjab Governor Engr. Muhammad Baligh Ur Rehman said, "The efforts of Prof. Athar Mahboob (Vice Chancellor, Islamia University of Bahawalpur) are commendable for establishing the research institutes, for example, the National Research Center of Intercropping, which can find solutions to local problems and bring our farmers from the quagmire of exhausting crop systems (mono-cropping systems).” Sichuan Agricultural University and the Islamia University of Bahawalpur jointly created the National Research Center for Intercropping in August 2021.
The Punjab Governor made a point of introducing strip intercropping technology to farmer fields during the meeting. He also stated that one of the greatest and most practical agricultural production options for boosting domestic soybean production and reducing the rising import costs is intercropping. He made the decision to frequently utilize his office to inform decision-makers and farmers about this incredibly effective and environmentally friendly cropping system.
The sowing of soybean, mustard, pea, and chickpea under the sugarcane strip intercropping systems has just been finished, according to Dr. Muhammad Ali Raza, Director of the National Research Center for Intercropping and a graduate of Sichuan Agricultural University. The entire sowing process for the upcoming season will be completed by January.
