The 2025 Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) National Film Festival will convene in Yongchuan, Chongqing, from June 23 to 27, fostering cultural collaboration among member nations, with a special emphasis on showcasing Pakistani cinema. The event, formally announced during a press conference, returns to China after a seven-year hiatus and aligns with dual milestones: the 130th anniversary of global cinema and the 120th anniversary of Chinese film heritage.
Mao Yu, Executive Deputy Director of China’s State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film, and Television, highlighted strategic priorities to deepen international engagement. “We propose broadening China’s film market to welcome exceptional global productions, initiating an SCO Youth Film Talent Exchange Program to empower emerging creators, and forming an SCO Film Producers Alliance to advance cross-border industry partnerships,” he stated.
Chongqing’s Executive Deputy Director of the Publicity Department, Guan Hong, underscored the city’s readiness to host filmmakers and investors. “Chongqing, a cornerstone of China’s economic and cultural progress, is committed to strengthening ties with SCO nations through this landmark event,” he remarked. Guan also detailed an array of festival activities, including international film screenings, thematic exhibitions, live music performances, and vibrant cultural markets designed to engage diverse audiences.
The festival aims to serve as a dynamic platform for dialogue and innovation, uniting filmmakers and audiences across the SCO region.
