MANSEHRA, OCT 24: The crew from China Gezhouba Group Corporation (CGGC) has completed the excavation of the deepest pressure shaft system at the Suki Kinari Hydropower Project (SKPP), Mansehra, marking another accomplishment.
On Saturday, the upper-pressure shafts’ breakthrough was accomplished. At the location, a celebration was organized to honor the outstanding accomplishment.
Eight horizontal pressure tunnels and six pressure shafts make up the pressure shaft system. It is the world’s deepest pressure shaft system in a hydroelectric plant, with an elevation difference of almost 740 meters. The end of the excavation has created a stable base for the installation of steel liners, which is now underway at the finished sections.
The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is responsible for developing the 884MW SKHPP at the River Kunhar, a tributary of the River Jhelum, in Mansehra, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). The project, which is being carried out by Suki Kinari Hydro (Pvt) Ltd., is sponsored by CGGC.
The project will cost $1.96 billion in total. During construction, the project supported more than 4,000 jobs, and more than 70% of the work has been finished. This undertaking has a 30-year lifespan. When finished, the project will provide Pakistan with 3.2 billion KWh of electricity annually. Later this year, the project is anticipated to be finished.
